Put Your Money Where Your Mouth is: How to Support Causes on a Budget

With everything going on the world lately, it is more important to give back than ever! However, it is easier than you may think while staying focused on your budget and financial goals. Most people don’t have millions or even thousands laying around to give back to the community, but one way to make a big impact is to make sure you are purchasing ethically and doing your research before you buy.

By supporting companies that are already giving towards causes you are passionate about, it allows the money you are already spending to be working for you! While it may not be millions it really starts to add up.

Here are my favorite companies to shop at that are prioritizing giving back:

1. Billie

Billie is a wellness company that focuses on axing the pink tax and providing high quality beauty basics at an affordable price. Billie donates 1% of its revenues and are now sending those funds to food banks to help those impacted by COVID-19. Additionally, Billie has committed a 100K donation to the NAACP in light of recent events.

2. Warby Parker

Warby Parker is an online retailer of prescription sunglasses and glasses based In New York City. I love Warby Parker for their Buy a Pair, Give a Pair program. Almost 1 billion people lack access to glasses and to address this problem, they partner with non-profits like VisionSpring to ensure that for every pair of glasses sold, a pair is sent to someone in need. In addition this amazing program, they have committed $1 million to end systemic racism.

“We are committed to created change within our workplace and beyond. To those who haven’t felt seen, included, or appreciated within the walls of Warby Parker we are deeply sorry. Thanks for holding us accountable. We will do better.”

3. Bombas

We originally founded Bombas to help support those experiencing homelessness by providing needed items and advocating for them. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we remain committed to helping these individuals who are at the greatest risk, through product donations, redistribution efforts for protective items, virtual volunteer opportunities, and support and donations for frontline and healthcare workers. Our approach to what’s happening is an extension of how we always operate: with helping those in need at the core of everything we do, and with compassion, transparency, support and kindness within our team.”

4. MAC Cosmetics

MAC Cosmetics is the world’s leading professional makeup authority because of our unrivalled expertise in makeup artistry.

MAC Cosmetics announced that it will donate $10 million towards 250 local organizations, in the U.S. and internationally, that are directly helping people at risk during the COVID-19 pandemic.

5. Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca Minkoff is selling a New York Stronger Together t-shirt with 100% of the proceeds benefitting the mask a hero organization.

“ I have always had a passion for giving back that runs back almost 20 years to the first t-shirt I did pre 9/11 that saw its success in a charitable component in the aftermath of our broken city. I could never do what I do without enabling ways for others to have more opportunity or get the basics they need. I am really proud to parter with @helpmaskaherony to get our front lines workers the masks they so desperately need. They are the true heroes in the front lines. 100% of the profits from this T-shirt will go to purchase these masks. Spread the word, help mask a hero and lets stay #strongertogether

6. Spanx

Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx is making her own contribution to those impacted by the novel coronavirus. Spanx founder announced on Instagram that she will be donating $5 million dollars to support women owned businesses
